About Low Voltage Pathway Lighting
1. What is low voltage pathway lighting?
Low voltage pathway lights operate at 12V instead of standard 120V household current. They require a low voltage transformer to step down the voltage, making them safer, more energy-efficient, and easier to install than line-voltage systems.
2. What's the difference between brass and aluminum fixtures?
Brass: Solid construction, superior corrosion resistance, develops a natural patina. Best for coastal/humid climates and long-term durability.
Aluminum: Lightweight, powder-coated finish, more budget-friendly. Ideal for standard residential use.
3. Do I need a transformer? How do I choose one?
Yes — all low voltage lights need a 12V AC transformer. Add up the total wattage of all fixtures, multiply by 1.25 for overhead, and round up to the next standard size. Most setups use 200W.
4. Can I install these myself?
Yes. Low voltage systems are designed for safe DIY: plug the transformer into a GFCI outlet, run low voltage cable, and connect fixtures. Bury wire 6–8 inches deep and space lights 8–10 feet apart.
5. Are they weatherproof? Will they work in winter?
Yes — rated for outdoor rain, snow, and dust exposure. LEDs operate from -40°F to 140°F. Install the transformer in a garage or weatherproof box in extreme climates.
6. One or more lights stopped working. What should I check?
All out: Check GFCI outlet, circuit breaker, and transformer power switch/timer settings.
One out: Swap the bulb with a working fixture to test; check wire connections.
A section out: Look for a cut wire between the last working and first non-working light.
7. What bulb types do Gardencoin path lights use?
Most Gardencoin path lights use replaceable G4 base LED bulbs for easy maintenance and long-term flexibility. Select lantern-style fixtures use E26 base bulbs. A small number of compact integrated models use non-replaceable LED modules. Check your product page for the exact bulb type. Never exceed the fixture's max wattage rating.
8. What if my order arrives with missing or damaged parts?
Contact support@gardencoin.com within 14 days with your order number and photos. We ship replacement parts within 1–2 business days or arrange a free exchange/refund.
